Many Colombian tattoo artists speak English, especially those who work with international clients or travel to conventions. If language is a concern, ask beforehand. Most artists require a deposit (usually 20–30% of the total) to secure your appointment. Deposits are typically non-refundable. Payment is usually in Colombian pesos (COP), though many studios accept USD or card payments. Always confirm the payment method beforehand.
Aftercare in a tropical climate

- Avoid direct sun — Colombia’s UV index is intense, especially on the coast. Keep your fresh tattoo covered when outdoors for at least 3 weeks
- Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water to help your skin heal
- Loose clothing — tight clothes over a fresh tattoo in humid weather causes irritation and slows healing
- Skip the beach — no ocean, pool, or river for at least 2-3 weeks after your session
- Air conditioning is your friend — keep the tattooed area cool and dry when possible
Best cities for tattoos in Colombia
Barranquilla
Known for its coastal Caribbean culture, Barranquilla has a growing reputation for high-quality realism work. Bogotá
The capital has the largest variety of styles and the most established studios. Great for niche styles like Japanese traditional or geometric work.
Cartagena
Tourist-heavy, so prices tend to be higher. Quality varies more here — do extra research before booking.
